Universal Robina Inc is a major Philippine food and beverage company, established and built by renowned businessman John Gokongwei Jr. URC is known for several major brands including Jack ‘n Jill, Calbee, Nissin, C2, Blend 45, Cloud 9, and many more. Their 2019 annual report was to showcase the company’s performance in both print-ready PDF and microsite format.
URC wanted an annual report that featured a thoughtful title, visually compelling cover, data visualization, and a format that read more like a heartfelt letter rather than a traditional report. The cover had to communicate how URC was bridging its old and proven heritage to a new and promising future. It also had to include a tribute to its founder John Gokongwei who recently passed away. They needed a new perspective and brought us onboard to overhaul their traditional report and give it something akin to a brand refresh.
After conducting some initial discovery meetings with URC’s investor relations team, we learned of the company’s steep history and how it was trying to grow under a framework that respected past achievements while being progressive and open to new initiatives. We developed the title, theme, and proofed all copy. We created the report in a print-ready format (so it could be distributed as a PDF) while we concurrently developed the website including wireframes and a user friendly UI/UX, all built using HTML5 and successfully integrated it into URC’s existing CMS.
All graphics and vector assets used in the PDF were adapted for online use. The result was a smooth browsing experience for busy, on the go executives who could also download the PDF and read in a more traditional format, if they wished.
